Step-by-Step Tutorial Exercise

Instructions: This tutorial creates a business plan for a hypothetical graphics company. It has been divided into segments. Each segment is approximately 3-5 minutes in length. You can watch the entire tutorial (approximately 45 minutes) or click on any segment individually. As one segment ends, the next segment will automatically begin.

Introduction
This segment introduces the online version and describes the link to the hand's-on version included within the Business Plan Pro 2006 Help menu.

Plan Setup
The tutorial starts a new plan and sets up the main plan settings, using the Plan Setup Wizard.

Financial Setup
This segment sets the financial settings of the new plan, using the Plan Setup Wizard.

Save Your Work
Always save your work, even in tutorials. This is a good reminder.

Working with Topics
This tutorial segment shows how to enter topic text, copy text from examples, globally change topic fonts, and create your own numbered list.

WORKING WITH TABLES, PART 1

Start-up
This segment demonstrates how the Start-up Table Wizard guides you through filling out the starting expenses and starting assets of the Start-up table.

Sales Forecast
This segment describes how to create your sales and cost of sales estimates within the Sales Forecast table.

Cash Flow, First Look
This segment gives you a first look at your cash flow chart, with both start-up expenses and sales forecast estimates entered.

WORKING WITH TABLES, PART 2

Personnel
Fill in assumptions for the personnel spending in this segment. A second review of cash flow shows negative cash at this point in the tutorial.

Start-up Funding
Resolve a negative cash flow problem by increasing start-up cash and start-up funding. Review of the cash flow chart shows positive again, at this point.

WORKING WITH TABLES, PART 3

Profit and Loss
This segment introduces the Profit and Loss table, and how to input assumptions for expenses. Review of the cash flow chart again shows as negative because of these additional expenses.

Profit and Loss Continued.
To address the negative cash generated by P&L expenses, this segment views the Balance Sheet, does an initial Plan Review, and then makes adjustments to correct the negative cash flow, using the Cash Flow table.

WORKING WITH TABLES, PART 4

Plan Review
This segment uses the full Plan Review, and it turns up additional cash flow warnings again. There is a salary revision made in the Personnel table to correct negative cash flow in the second and third years. We discuss but don't overemphasize some warnings that don't actually require changes.

Overview and Conclusion
This final segment briefly describes working with charts, modifying the outline, printing, exporting, using resources, the Sample Plan Browser, and searching for Help.
