Backing up and transferring files
Backing up and transferring files

Question:
How do I preserve my old text from dissappearing in to cyber space? I do not have a backuped copy so I don't want to install this new copy without making sure my old copy will be preserved.

Answer:
Reinstalling into the same directory will not erase your existing plans files, but backing up is always a good idea regardless.

What is confusing to some people is that our software uses two files for each plan. If you name the plan "myplan.bpd," for example, there are actually two files, the one named myplan.bpd and another named myplan.bpf. For every file ending in bpd that you see on your file open and save dialog, there is a matching file ending in bpf. However, only the .BPD file contains your plan data itself. The .BPF file contains table formatting, and will be automatically recreated if it is deleted or is missing.

We recommend using My Computer or Windows explorer to send a plan .BPD file to a floppy disk or back-up directory. This is because our software automatically moves or copies both the .BPD and .BPF files, thus possibly running over the storage capacity of a floppy diskette and causing errors when opening the plan. Take the following steps to send a file to a floppy disk with Windows Explorer:

  1. Click on Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer
  2. Browse to the directory which contains your plan files. We use the My Documents folder by default.
  3. Right click on the .bpd file for your plan.
  4. From the menu provided, choose Send to > 3 1/2 Floppy [A:].
  5. This will copy the .bpd file for your plan to the floppy disk. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the .bpf file for your plan to copy this file as well.

Our software automatically maintains a backup copy of your plan located, this backup copy is updated every 10 minuites by default. You can change the interval of this backup by opening the program, then clicking Tools > Options > Desktop and then selecting the Other tab. You can restore the backup copy of a file at any time by clicking on File > Restore from within the software.
