Business Plan Pro compatability with QuickBooks Pro
Business Plan Pro compatability with QuickBooks Pro

Question:
I want to be able to download my actuals from QuickBooks. It puts it into Excel. I wish to be able to import my actuals directly into your program. My life is too busy to update every two weeks. The Internet is a great tool but it also makes more demands on all of us and for young businesses we have had to eliminate the traditional secretary because of these changes. I need to have this product be seamless for it to be of any ongoing value.

Thank you

Answer:
With version 2003 we added the facility to import categories and data from your QuickBooks Pro or QuickBooks Premier, directly through the software, without you having to intervene. You can get your bookkeeping categories automatically, and you can load past data for use in forecasting future data.

It isn't quite up to importing actual financials yet. We are very close, but there are some issues in timing of expenses that make small differences between what we can import into Business Plan Pro and what shows up in your statements. We expect to be able to offer the actual import within a few months (as of August 2002).

In the meantime, if you import your QuickBooks categories to Business Plan Pro you'll then find that the summary balance sheet and summary profit and loss statement, exported to Excel, work very well for copy and paste to Business Plan Pro actual areas. Make sure to set the QuickBooks Excel export to not have extra columns to space the tables.

We can't help recommending QuickBooks when people ask because it is excellent accounting software, but they are optimizing for accounting and we are optimizing for business planning, and the needs are different.

Thanks for asking,
